Gmail: Redtail-hosted Email Setup

Gmail allows you to to set up outside email addresses as POP accounts within its interface. Below, you will find the steps to set up the Gmail Mail Fetcher functionality.

To set up Mail Fetcher:

Click the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner of any Gmail page, choose See all settings and select the Accounts and Import tab. (For Google Apps domains, open the Accounts tab.)

In the Check mail from other accounts row, click Add a mail account:

You'll then see a pop-up dialog. Enter the full email address of the account you'd like to setup, then click Next. On the next dialog, select "Import emails from my other account (POP3)" and click Next.

Gmail may populate sample settings, but you will manually enter the Redtail server settings. You will enter the following settings:

  • Username: your full email address
  • Password: your email password
  • POP Server: pop.redtailtechnology.com

You will also want to check the following options:

  • Leave a copy of retrieved message on the server
  • Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail.
  • Label incoming messages:

Once you have entered the requested information, click Add Account. 

Next, you will be notified that your mail account has been added. Within the same window, you will also be asked if you would like to be able to send mail as the newly added address. If you do, select the radio button next to "Yes, I want to be able to send email as.."  Then, select Next

In the next box, you will enter your name as you wish it to be displayed in the Name: field and remove the check next to "Treat as an alias."  Then, select Next Step. 

The next window will prompt you for your SMTP Settings. You will enter the following information:

  • Select "Send through <your domain's> SMTP server"
  • SMTP Server: smtp.redtailtechnology.com
  • Username: your full email address
  • Password: your email password
  • Select "Secured connection using SSL"
  • After entering your settings, click Add Account

Once you have added your account, the next window will congratulate you on your successful add. You will then be prompted to verify the account. Gmail will send you a verification email that contains a confirmation code along with a confirmation link. You can opt to click the link or manually enter the confirmation code to confirm your account so that you can send emails from the account via Gmail.
