You'll then see an area where you can set up the parameters for your Advanced Search:

The Field menu presents you with a list of all of the fields within Redtail that you can set up a search for here.  In this post, we'll take a look at the Contact Add Date field (this is an automatic entry within your database and shows up in the Input Date field under Contact Details):

After selecting "Contact Add Date" from the Field menu, your next selection to make is the Operand you want to use with it.  Your available Operands are:

  • Begins With
  • Like
  • Equal To
  • Greater Than
  • Less Than
  • Not Equal To
  • Is Empty (NULL)

We'll explain the types of results you might expect from some of these, along with what you might enter in the Criteria box to get at your desired results.

Begins With — this is not a valid Operand with the Contact Add Date field.

Like — this is a valid Operand with the Contact Add Date field, but not one that you would be likely to use.

Equal To — This is not a valid Operand with the Contact Add Date field.

Greater Than / Less Than — these Operands can be used to find contacts that were added to your database later or earlier than the Date you enter as the Criteria.

To find all contacts whose Contact Add Date is later than December 31, 2009, you would set this search up as in the below example:

To find all contacts whose Contact Add Date is earlier than January 1, 2012, you would set this search up as in the below example:

Note: you can use the AND function after your Criteria box to combine the Greater Than and Less Than Operands in order to find all contacts whose Contact Add Date falls between two entered Dates:

The above search would return only those contacts who were added to your database later than December 31, 2009 and earlier than January 1, 2012, i.e., your results would display those contacts that were added to your database in 2010 or 2011.

Not Equal To — It's unlikely you would use this Operand with the Contact Add Date field but it will return all contacts with a Contact Add Date entered that doesn't match your Criteria.

Is Empty (NULL) —  this is not a valid Operand with the Contact Add Year field, since the Input Date is generated automatically when a contact is added to your database.
Contact Add Dates (Input Dates) for contacts can be viewed in the Contact Details section of their Overview.

Note: with any of your Advanced Searches, you can create Tag Groups or Quicklists.  You also have many other options in terms of working with your search results.
