The Field menu presents you with a list of all of the fields within Redtail that you can set up a search for here.  In this post, we'll take a look at the Contact Add Year field (this is an automatic entry within your database and shows up in the Input Date field under Contact Details):

After selecting "Contact Add Year" from the Field menu, your next selection to make is the Operand you want to use with it.  Your available Operands are:

  • Begins With
  • Like
  • Equal To
  • Greater Than
  • Less Than
  • Not Equal To
  • Is Empty (NULL)

We'll explain the types of results you might expect from some of these, along with what you might enter in the Criteria box to get at your desired results.

Begins With — you're not likely to use this Operand but it would allow you to see all contacts whose Contact Add Year begins in the way you specify.  In most cases you would just want to use the Equal To Operand with this field to pinpoint a specific year.  But, the below search would show you all the contacts added to your database between 2000 and 2009:

Like — you're not likely to use this Operand but it would allow you to see all contacts whose Contact Add Year contains the string of numbers you specify.  In most cases you would just want to use the Equal To Operand with this field to pinpoint a specific year.

Equal To — Use this when you want to pull up all records with a specific Contact Add Year:

This search would return all contacts in your database that were added in 2010.

Greater Than / Less Than — these Operands can be used to find contacts whose Contact Add Year falls later or earlier than the Year you enter as the Criteria.

To find all contacts whose Contact Add Year is later than 2006, you would set this search up as in the below example:

To find all contacts whose Contact Add Year is earlier than 2011, you would set this search up as in the below example:

Note: you can use the AND function after your Criteria box to combine the Greater Than and Less Than Operands in order to find all contacts whose Contact Add year falls between two entered Years:

The above search would return only those contacts whose Contact Add Year (or Input Date) is later than 2006 and earlier than 2011, i.e., your results would display those contacts added to your database between 2007 and 2010.

Not Equal To — You can use this Operand to find all contacts with a Contact Add Year that does not match the year you specify:

The above would return all contacts who were added to your database in years other than 2006.

Is Empty (NULL) — this is not a valid Operand with the Contact Add Year field, since the Input Date is generated automatically when a contact is added to your database.

Contact Add Dates (Input Dates) for contacts can be viewed in the Contact Details section of their Overview.

Note: with any of your Advanced Searches, you can create Tag Groups or Quicklists.  You also have many other options in terms of working with your search results.
