To run an Advanced Search within Redtail, click Search under your Contacts menu:
You'll then see an area where you can set up the parameters for your Advanced Search:
The Field menu presents you with a list of all of the fields within Redtail that you can set up a search for here. In this post, we'll take a look at the Account Issue Date field:
After selecting "Account Issue Date" from the Field menu, your next selection to make is the Operand you want to use with it. Your available Operands are:
- Begins With
- Equal To
- Greater Than
- Less Than
- Not Equal To
- Is Empty (NULL)
We'll explain the types of results you might expect from some of these, along with what you might enter in the Criteria box to get at your desired results.
Begins With — this is not a valid Operand with the Account Issue Date field.
Like — this Operand would primarily be used for finding contacts with accounts issued in a specific year. For example, if you wanted to find all contacts with accounts that were issued in 2012, you could set up the below search:
The Like Operand searches for the string of characters you enter into the Criteria field. So, while you could enter "11" in the Criteria box with this variable, it might pull up results but they would be of limited value, as you would get all those contacts with an Issue Date in November, with an Issue Date on the 11th of any month and/or with accounts issued in 2011.
Equal To — Use this when you want to pull up all records with a specific Account Issue Date for at least one of their accounts:
This search would return all contacts in your database for whom you've recorded an Account Issue Date of April 27, 2012.
Greater Than / Less Than — these Operands can be used to find contacts who have an Account Issue Date that falls later or earlier than the Date you enter as the Criteria.
To find all contacts who have an Account Issue Date later than 1/1/2000, you would set this search up as in the below example:
To find all contacts who have an Account Issue Date earlier than 1/1/2010, you would set this search up as in the below example:
Note: you can use the AND function after your Criteria box to combine the Greater Than and Less Than Operands in order to find all contacts who have Account Issue Dates that fall between two entered dates:
The above search would return only those contacts who have an account with an Issue Date later than January 1, 2000 and earlier than January 1, 2010, i.e., your results would display those contacts with an Account Issue Date for at least one account that falls between January 2, 2000 and December 31, 2009.
Not Equal To — Although you probably wouldn't be too likely to use this Operand with Account Issue Date, it will allow you to find all contacts who have an Account Issue Date that is not the Date you indicate. In the example below, your results would display all contacts who have an account that doesn't have a January 1, 2010 Account Issue Date:
Is Empty (NULL) — Use this Operand to determine which of your contacts do not have a Account Issue Date entered for at least one of the accounts attached to their record:
