The Field menu presents you with a list of all of the fields within Redtail that you can set up a search for here.  In this post, we'll take a look at the Account Issue Date Year field:

After selecting "Account Issue Date Year" from the Field menu, your next selection to make is the Operand you want to use with it.  Your available Operands are:

  • Begins With
  • Like
  • Equal To
  • Greater Than
  • Less Than
  • Not Equal To
  • Is Empty (NULL)

We'll explain the types of results you might expect from some of these, along with what you might enter in the Criteria box to get at your desired results.

Begins With — this Operand would be most useful if you were trying to pull up all contacts that have at least one account with an Issue Date Year in a specific decade.  For example, if you wanted all contacts with an account with an issue date in the 1990s, you could set this up as below:

Using the above search parameters, any contact who had at least one account issued between January 1, 1990 and December 31, 1999 would be returned in your results.

Like — this Operand is of limited value with the Account Issue Date Year field.  Anything you could accomplish with it you would be able to accomplish using the Equal To Operand.  That being said you can use it in the same manner as the Equal To Operand to pull up relevant results.

Equal To — Use this when you want to pull up all records with a specific Account Issue Date Year for at least one of their accounts:

This search would return all contacts in your database for whom you've recorded an Account Issue Date in 2012.

Greater Than / Less Than — these Operands can be used to find contacts whose Account Issue Date Year falls later or earlier in time than the Year you enter as the Criteria.

To find all contacts who have an Account Issue Date Year later than 2000, you would set this search up as in the below example:

To find all contacts who have an Account Issue Date Year earlier than 2010, you would set this search up as in the below example:

Note: you can use the AND function after your Criteria box to combine the Greater Than and Less Than Operands in order to find all contacts whose Account Issue Dates fall between two entered Years:

The above search would return only those contacts who have an account with an Issue Date Year greater than 2000 and less than 2010, i.e., your results would display those contacts with an Account Issue Date Year for at least one account that falls between 2001 and 2009.

Not Equal To — Although you probably wouldn't be too likely to use this Operand with Account Issue Date Year, it will allow you to find all contacts who have an Account Issue Date that is not in the Year you indicate.  In the example below, your results would display all contacts who have an account that doesn't have a 2010 Account Issue Date:

Is Empty (NULL) — Use this Operand to determine which of your contacts do not have a Account Issue Date Year entered for at least one of the accounts attached to their record:
