The Field menu presents you with a list of all of the fields within Redtail that you can set up a search for here. In this post, we'll take a look at the Contact Job Title field:
After selecting "Contact Job Title" from the Field menu, your next selection to make is the Operand you want to use with it. Your available Operands are:
- Begins With
- Equal To
- Greater Than
- Less Than
- Not Equal To
- Is Empty (NULL)
We'll show examples of the types of results you might expect from some of these, along with what you might enter in the Criteria box to get at your desired results.
Begins With — Use this Operand with the Job Title field if you would like to find all contacts whose Job Titles begin in a similar way:
In the above instance, your results would include those with Job Titles such as Director of Sales, Director of Marketing, etc.
Like — Use this Operand with the Job Title field if you would like to find all contacts whose Job Titles include a certain word or phrase:
In the above instance, you'd not only get those contacts whose Job Titles began with the word "Director", but also those with Titles such as Communications Director.
Equal To — Use this when you want to pull up all records that have a specific Job Title:
This search would display all contact records whose Job Title is "CEO."
Greater Than / Less Than — these Operands are unlikely to be used with the Contact Job Title Field. If you do use them, they will return results that are either greater than or less than your entered Criteria in terms of where they fall in an alphanumeric pattern.
Not Equal To — this Operand is unlikely to be used with the Contact Job Title Field. If used, however, it will pull up all contact records other than those who share the Job Title you enter in the Criteria box:
Is Empty (NULL) — Use this when you want to find out which of your contact records have nothing entered in their Job Title field:
